Texas Day Trip: Padre Island

I love weekends in Texas. There is always something to do or somewhere to go without having to travel very far. Nolan doesn't mind driving an hour or two and for me, nothing beats a good nap while on the road. (I wish that weren't the truth, but nothing puts me to sleep faster) So, if we hear of something happening nearby in TX, we go!

A couple weekends ago, warm temperatures were in the forecast, so we decided to head south towards Port Aransas and Padre Island. It ended up being an incredibly windy day on the beach. But it was still fun!

We headed south in the morning. Our first stop was at an authentic Texas BBQ joint, Mac's, in Rockport. We ate some delicious brisket and pulled pork for lunch, then got on our way! At Aransas Pass we took the ferry across the bay to Port Aransas. As we drove just a few feet onto the beach, I really started missing our adventure vehicle, the jeep. I love Nolan's new car and all, but it's definitely not as beach friendly!

Then, we continued our drive to Padre Island National Seashore. I spent some time behind my camera on the windy beach. I was slightly disappointed that windburn was a more likely outcome than a sun tan for the day, but I can't complain about being on the beach in January. On our way back to College Station, we stopped in one of our favorite little TX small towns, Round Top (population: 90). At 9 p.m. on a Saturday, there were only two dinner options, so we ate pizza and listened to a piano man with about half of the Round Top locals.

The trip was quick, but we plan on going back soon. Nonetheless, it was a ton of fun, thanks to our sense of adventure and willingness to just go. It doesn't cost much to get out and explore! We're laughing now because the most expensive part of the trip was the barbecue.

This is just the first of many TX Day/Weekend Trips to appear on Wander With Grace!! So, enjoy the pictures below & keep an eye out for more to come!
