Jenelle + Leighton's Somerset County Farm Wedding
The new Mr. and Mrs. Barnes said “I do” on Jenelle’s family’s beautiful farm in Windber, Pennsylvania on June 26, 2021.
Jenelle and Leighton met during their undergrad years at MIT. They are two of the kindest, most humble people, yet absolutely brilliant — Leighton has a PhD in electrical engineering and Jenelle is a neuroscientist. Their ceremony took place on top of a hill overlooking the vast rolling hills. Guests joined from all over the country, both in person and via zoom. Forgoing traditional vows, Jenelle presented hers to Leighton in the form on a scientific study, explaining the many “experiments” that eventually led to the conclusion that they are absolutely meant for one another.
Their reception took place under a gorgeous tent, situated perfectly to witness the most amazing Somerset County sunset. Inside the tent, a large yellow canoe served as the most unique bar, filled to the brim with beer and their favorite liquors. The bride and groom cut a big slice of chocolate gob cake — homemade by Jenelle’s mom — and kindly fed each other the first bite. The dessert table also boasted a beautiful array of family made cookies for the infamous “Pittsburgh Cookie Table.” We taste tested quite a few throughout the night — 5 stars, 10/10, very good cookies!
Under lights strung throughout the tent, guests danced the night away. At one point the dance floor required minor repair after a very rowdy bridal dance! I’m still not sure how Leighton made his way through three circles of guests and retrieved his bride.
Up in the yard near the farmhouse, guests set up tents to stay the night. Jenelle and Leighton’s “honeymoon suite” — a big tent where Jenelle also put on her dress and finishing touches for the day — sat up on top the hill overlooking all the festivities of the day. To end the evening, Jenelle’s dad and his brothers made one massive bonfire in which the bride and groom had the honor of lighting together using a torch!
Even if covid delayed this celebration a year, a perfect day like this is always worth the wait!
